I painted this over a couple of days -- composition and color gave me trouble, but never quite abandoned it. I eliminated some mountains and hills to lower the horizon, and went back and forth between purples browns, greens and golds for the colors before settling on this scheme. I don't paint in any revolutionary style or even all that unconventional, but I dislike putting things into paintings to make them more conventionally appealing. In this case, some clouds catching the glow of the sinking sun or a couple of people in the foreground going home through the heather (maybe even driving cows or sheep) would enliven the painting, but at the cost of making it more conventional... so they ain't there.
Beautiful! The paint looks nice and thick! The houses look great. Watching this, I feel like I'm strolling through a beatiful landscape and look over my shoulder to see the houses in the distance. It feels like late afternoon. I wonder what's for dinner.
